May 18, 2023 · Santorini has more top-notch tours. Both have wineries and great local food. Crete has better beaches but they’re spread out and it takes a fair bit of effort to see the best beaches. Santorini is small and it’s easy to get around to all the popular beaches. Crete has more small traditional (non-touristy) villages.
Dec 7, 2021 · Reach Santorini by ferry, catamaran or plane. Frequent ferries and high-speed catamarans link Santorini with Athens’ main port of Piraeus, Crete and various Cycladic islands. Check OpenSeas for ferry timetables. Santorini Airport has year-round flight connections with Athens, and summertime European connections.
There are 4wheel rental places allll over the place, so you can just show up and get one for like 35 E a day. Just taxi to your hotel from the airport and there will be a place within walking distance. Yep, this is the best option. Fun as hell and you can cruise all around the island and parking super easy. On Santorini, people are all over during the day, mainly the main towns and beaches, and gather in Oia and Fira for the sunset and night-life, which is not as vibrant as Mykonos. If you go to Oia, best to go well before sunset and plan on leaving quite late, as first buses after sunset have big queues.
